What does BLDS do?

  • BLDS closely supports teaching and research at the Institute of Development Studies.
  • BLDS contributes to Global Projects on access (for all) to research published in developing countries, and on the demand for research information.

What does BLDS hold?

  • BLDS houses the largest collection of economic and social development materials in Europe.
  • Over half the collection originates from developing countries, with much unavailable in other European or US libraries.

Who can make use of BLDS resources?

  • Members of IDS, and staff and postgraduate students at University of Sussex are entitled to join the library for free.
  • BLDS is freely open for reference purposes to anyone wishing to use the resources in person: see information on Visiting BLDS
  • It is also possible to take out paid membership, allowing borrowing.
  • BLDS provides a number of services to remote users, enabling access to the collection and staff expertise: see Remote user services.
