African Energy Policy Research Network (AFREPREN/FWD)
"Energy, Environment and Development Network for Africa"; based in Nairobi. Details of its research themes (Renewables and Energy for Rural Development; Gender and Energy; Energy Sector Reform; Energy Services for the Urban Poor; Special Studies of Strategic Significance) and other studies and initiatives. Lists of publications and working papers, etc; some downloadable. Incorporates the Foundation for Woodstove Dissemination.

The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI)
Institute for research and development into solutions to energy and environmental problems (formerly Tata Energy Research Institute). Indian based; operates in other countries and regions as well. Site contains details of its research topics, completed and ongoing projects, its publications, and downloadable research papers and information briefs.

The Energy Library
"A web-based information resource about energy in all of its multifaceted aspects."

International Energy Agency
"An international forum for countries committed to advancing global energy security, policy and technology through co-operation." Site contains publications and statistics, some available electronically. An Energy Information Centre enables searching by keyword (i.e.topic heading), free text, and country/region.

UN-Energy
"The interagency mechanism on energy." Aims to forward the work of the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) and to promote co-operation in energy matters across the UN system. Site contains information on workplan and activities, and links to sites of member organisations in the UN system.

UNEP Energy Branch
"Goal ... is to bring a longer term, environmental dimension into energy sector decisions." Details of activities arranged by theme (Energy efficiency; Renewable energy; Transport; Energy finance; Energy policy; Eneergy for sustainable development), by region and by project. Contains publications, fact sheets, and links to other sites.

World Bank Group Energy Program
Detailed information about all aspects of World Bank energy strategy and policy. Texts of Discussion paper series and Working papers from the Energy Department; information about the Group's projects and programmes.

World Energy Council
Information about the Council's works and details of its publications, several of which are available online (in some cases freely, in others for members only). Data from Survey of energy resources gives information about individual countries' and regions' energy profiles. There are also links to other energy indicators and sources of data, and to other sites. A Supply source directory gives details of "thousands of companies and organisations who supply goods and services to the energy sector".

World Resources Institute
"An environmental think tank ... to create practical ways to protect the Earth and improve people's lives." Includes online publications and podcasts. Contains resources on energy, e.g. in the Climate change, energy and transportation section.
