Choike: A Portal on Southern Civil Societies - Southern NGO Web Portal
"A directory of southern Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), grouped in five major thematic fields: the people, society, the environment, globalization and communication." Contains full text documents by CHOIKE and other organisatiions, links to websites on related themes, and reports on campaigns being conducted throughout the world.. Also includes an NGO directory (using Advanced Search it is possible to search the web pages of the sites listed in this directory) and an In-depth reports section.

Development Gateway Portal
Portal, originally conceived by World Bank but now run on not-for-profit basis by partner organisations, for development information and knowledge sharing. Includes:

DFID - UK Department for International Development
"The part of the UK Government that manages Britain's aid to poor countries and works to get rid of extreme poverty." The section on DFID funded research includes the Research4Development (R4D) Research Portal, which has a browsable and searchable list at Projects and Programmes.

ilissAfrica (Internet library sub-Saharan Africa)
"A portal that offers an integrated access to relevant scientific conventional and digital information resources on the sub-Saharan Africa region. Information scattered on private or institutional websites, databases or library catalogues are brought together in order to facilitate research."

Impact Evaluations Database | 3IE Database
"This database covers impact evaluations conducted in low- and middle- income countries. It summarizes study findings and methodologies for both researchers, and program managers or policy makers, who need evidence on what works, in designing and implementing impact evaluations. The database includes studies that quantify impact using a counterfactual – implicitly or explicitly – with a focus on final welfare outcomes, using qualitative, quantitative or mixed methods. This is a work in progress. It currently features over 200 studies."

Intute
A gateway to Internet resources useful for HE teaching and research work, "created by a network of UK universities and partners". Not maintained since July 2011, but will be available for three years. Several sections are relevant to development studies, including:

OneWorld.net
News from over 1,600 organisations concerned with human rights, combatting poverty, and other global issues, plus related resources (e.g. Topic guides, Country guides). Includes OneWorld Partners database, a directory of 1,600 NGOs worldwide "to promote sustainable development, social justice and human rights", browsable by name and searchable by country, area of work, type of organisation and language.

Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)
OECD consists of 30 "developed" countries. It conducts research and provides assistance to "developing" countries. Relevant parts of the site include:

USAID (U.S. Agency for International Development)
"The principal U.S. agency to extend assistance to countries recovering from disaster, trying to escape poverty, and engaging in democratic reforms ... supports long-term and equitable economic growth and advances U.S. foreign policy objectives." Site details USAID's work by topic and region/country. Includes link to the Development Experience Clearinghouse (DEC), a database of USAID funded technical and program documentation.
