Masters students - accessing course readings

Accessing course readings

  • To access your IDS course readings go to, or click the Reading Lists Online tab at the top of each web page.
  • Instructions are provided on the front page of Reading Lists Online and on a video tutorial.
  • Essential readings (usually two per session) are available for each module each week.
  • Hard copies of books containing essential readings are also held in BLDS.
  • The majority of these will be located in the Teaching Collection, some will be in the Research Methods Collection.
  • Both these collections  are located on the library 1st floor, near the service counter.
  • To find the books you require, use Reading Lists Online or  check the location and availability of items using the catalogue search.
  • Ordinarily, there will be a number of copies, marked up as different loan types:
    • overnight loan (due back by the end of the next working day)
    • 7-day loan
    • Library Use Only
  • Some titles are available as e-books. This will be indicated on Reading Lists Online, and in the catalogue.
  • You will be able to access the e-book directly from the catalogue or Reading Lists Online (using the appropriate password: ask at the service counter if you are unsure what this is).
  • Existence of an e-book usually means fewer print titles will be available.
  • BLDS does not guarantee to hold a copy of all items indicated as supplementary or additional reading: however, if we do not hold a copy we will consider purchasing or obtaining as an interlibrary-loan.
  • For detailed information  see this extract from our collection policy.
