  • BLDS houses Europe's most comprehensive print collection of research on development issues, providing an unparalleled range and depth of coverage.
  • The collection has been built up since 1966.
  • These unique holdings consist of approximately one million items held in over four miles of shelving space.
  • Over half the collection originates from developing countries, with much unavailable in other European or US libraries.
  • The catalogue listing of items in the collection is a key bibliographic tool for development.
  • The BLDS Digital Library is an open access repository for a selection of digitised Southern research from the collection and beyond.
  • Further detail on what we hold can be found in About our collection
